Our Preparation

Before getting started plates and hardware will be removed from the walls and ceilings. Furniture will be moved to the center of the room and covered. If any residue is covering the walls they will be cleaned in order to allow for proper paint adhesion. Imperfections in the walls and ceilings including holes, dents, and deep scratches will require drywall mud for a smooth finished wall once the final coat of paint is applied. When painting over dark colors primer will be used in order to ensure proper covering and no bleed through of previous color.

People tend to spend most of their time choosing their paint color and forget all about the importance of paint sheen. Paint sheen is what determines the amount of shine that will be produced from your paint due to the reflection of light. No sheen will produce a flat appearance compared to a semi-gloss/gloss/high gloss sheen that will produce a well pronounced shine from the surface.

(Listed from no sheen to most sheen)

  • Flat

  • Eggshell/Low Lustre

  • Satin

  • Semi-Gloss

  • Gloss/High Gloss

Flat- Used on ceilings, Allows for less notciability of imperfections due to reduced light reflection, holds dirt causing increased difficulty in cleaning (ceilings)

Eggshell/Low Lustre- Sheen similar to surface of an egg, offers elegant low sheen finish, more washable than flat sheens (living rooms, family rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways, laundry rooms, foyer)

Satin- Brings out wall imperfections, can be wiped clean, used in more active rooms, durable at resisting mildew, dirt and stains (bathrooms, kitchens, laundry room, children’s bedroom, playroom, doors, trim, cabinets)

Semi-Gloss- Creates a bright shiny look, shows nearly every imperfection, most durable at resisting moisture, mildew, dirt and stains, can withstand cleaning and light scrubbing, used in high traffic areas, used for highlighting trim, railings and molding (kitchens, bathrooms, doors, trim, cabinets)

Gloss/High Gloss- Provide a look similar to plastic or enamel, shows every imperfection, can be scrubbed clean with ease, ideal for surfaces that require frequent washing (trim, doors, cabinets, molding)
